Wedssport tc105n in 17x9 are only 16lbs. HOLY SHIT!! But they are 200 bucks more than the ones I want. But 16lbs, that is nearly 3.5lbs off the wheels I am already getting, or nearly 5lbs lower compared to the stock wheels. God damn it. Then there are these.
Enkei NT03+M, which are cheaper AND lighter (by about a pound) than the Gram Lights. Both of these wheels look super sexy, plus they are lighter, and they both come in black. I think I now what I want now. Sorry Gram Lights, but you just aren't so Gram Light are you?

Well, it seems that Fuzzy Wuzzy wasn't so very fuzzy after all, was he? By the way, was the 200 per wheel or for the set?

200 for the set. They are 50 bucks more per wheel. Even still 200 bucks is a lot of money!!

no denying that... but it is a lot better than 800.

Buy the ones you want, spend 200$ on fiberglass hood / bumpers /trunk lid / fenders / something else to drop weight by like, 20-30 lbs off the whole car.
Lightweight suspension and wheels is important, but a lightweight and strong body and chassis is more important in my mind. I say get something that's better than stock, but not extremely expensive, and then spend the rest improving other things.

I would never be looking at these wheels if they were over 2 grand. My goal is wheels below 1800 that look good, and are light. I am having a hard time find some under 19lbs. . . but I just found 2 right now.

I could buy the Enkei. I hate RPF1s just because of the way they look, and I really want a good looking wheel. But that number 16lbs. It is sooooo good! Plus I w
I already dropped like 20lbs when I installed the headers+new frontpipe with high flow cat. Also lost a bit of weight, when I decided that I should probably make my fatass work out.

Not so sure...
Everyone always wants lighter wheels, why go the other route? I rather go for the lightest rotating mass if it was me...

but reducing unsprung mass will matter more, lb per lb than any other place on the car. wheels are the best place to loose weight.

I would actually say the opposite.
lighter body panels are less significant.
Lighter wheels are a BIG improvement, they are un-sprung weight, and they are rotating mass, and their mass has an inertia effect for acceleration, braking, and their unsprung weight effects suspension action.
Plus... if they are high quality wheels, they may actually be stronger, as well as lighter, which is a safety issue.
If you have the money, quality wheels, rather than wavy aftermarket fiberglass body panels are what I would spend money on.
Stripping out excess sound deadening, manual seats rather than power seats, and just keeping the car cleaned out drops curb weight.
Chassis needs to stay strong, and a unibody means that the body IS the chassis, as does suspension strength matter also, and static sprung weight is not as significantly effective as lighter unsprung rotating mass.

2 is good! It gives you a choice.

Cost. I'm talking about cost. Of course less unsprung weight is better, but for the $, once you're past stock wheels to some decent ones, I think more performance can be gained through other weight reduction methods.
GhostZ

But not necessarily lb per $. Marginal gains and all that, which is my point.

well but, the math is something to the effect that 1 lb dropped from your wheels is worth 5 on the body (rotational inertia and sprung mass) so it really does make financial sense to drop weight in wheels first

I gave up searching for the ultralight wheels. The RPF1 is just so ugly on my car color (asphalt). Going for Gramlight 57Xtreme's. Wheel/tire setup will be at stock weight which is fine by mine.
Would have been nice to shed some lbs, but at the cost I can budget the wheels are damn ugly.

The Enkei NT03 are about 300 bucks a wheel for 17x9. So they are right around the price of the RPF1s. I really want to lose a bunch of weight off the wheels, but for the price the options are all to ugly. If I can dish out a couple hundred more I could get the Wedssports.
Also, what color are you aiming for?

Too bad 949 doesn't make any other bolt patterns...
Here's what I want for the Seven, 15x10, 13.7lbs each.

15x10?? That has to be some deep wheels!?! Also, why don't they make it in 5 bolt patterns? They could probably sell more.

They are back-logged as it is... they supply the Miata crowd. 'Nuff said.
Being Miata-donored, I'm stuck with the 4x100, but I have a ridiculously deep offset; from the look of those rims there, they'd be too shallow for it.
And I already have 15x8 in the front, 15x10 in the back. Wanted to go 15x12 or 15x13 in the back, but not enough room in the fenders.

I saw a guy at autocross with some crazy flairs on his Miata. You could always do that, it also looked awesome.

There's a set of magnesium alloys I could get for the Spitfire. Only 6J x 13, but they only weight 4kg per alloy.
That's 8.8lbs. Superlight.
Nowhere near as wide as those though, which are ver, very sexy.

I am trying to go with dark grey/gunmetal. Black was another possible look but I did not like it as much.
I looked at Wedssports, as well as the new Volks that are coming out. However, $4200 for a set of wheels/tires on a $24K car is steep.

Have you tried a bright silver color? I think it would look great!
4k for a set of wheels is very steep. Plus concidering that there are lighter options for cheaper the only reason to buy it is for the looks. What Wedssports were you looking at? The ones I have seen hover around 1700 to 2000.

Right, but he's already looking at lightweight wheels. By his logic, paying an extra $200 drops 3.5 pounds, which, by your logic, is equivalent to something like 22 pounds off the body. Going stock -> fiberglass hood should drop that kind of weight easily (shouldn't it? I don't own a fiber hood, I just sort of assumed that it was a pretty big drop), and fiberglass hoods don't seem to be particularly expensive IIRC.
On the flipside, these rims look expensive. If you're already prepared to drop 3K (or w/e) on rims, what's an extra $200 realistically?

No one is arguing against diminishing returns, but if you have money to loose weight in only one place, you should do it where it has the greatest effect. Wheels.

That car is black, and I agree silver might be OK. I checked out the Weds TC105N 18x8.5.
I'm fairly set on the Gramlight 57Xtreme's, unless I go murdered out 18x8.5 RPF1 in black with some fat rubber. I think the lip/skirt kit is necessary to make it look good though.

The Gram Lights are SUPER sexy. I can't blame you for sticking with them, cause I was so ready to buy them.
You are probably gonna want to get some form of springs as well(or coilovers if you have the cash) cause the ride height is going to be increased. 18s fit the wells perfectly when the car is dropped a bit.
